The new coronavirus left at least 15,300 dead worldwide, according to data released on Monday, 23, by John Hopkins University, which maintains a real-time monitoring of the Covid-19 pandemic. Globally, more than 349,000 cases of the disease have been recorded.
The country with the largest number of patients remains China, with 81,496 cases and 3,274 deaths. Next are Italy, with 59,138 cases and 5,476 deaths, and the United States, with 35,224 infected and 471 deaths.
The number of infected people in the United States, Spain and Germany exceeded the cases in Iran, which until last week was the third country most affected by the pandemic. The countries with the highest number of deaths within 24 hours were Italy, Spain and Iran.
The number of positive diagnosed cases reflects only a part of the total number of infections due to the different policies in each country for diagnosing patients and the fact that some test only people who need hospitalization.
