New iOS update could turn your iPhone into a car key

Apple is preparing a new update for the iOS operating system. The beta version should allow the car to be locked and opened, in addition to starting the engine with the iPhone.

If you have an iPhone or an Apple Watch be aware of the new iOS 13.4 update that is coming soon. The beta version contains a “CarKey” API that will allow you to lock, open and start the car's engine using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.

So the Engadget you’ve learned, you don’t even need to use Face ID, just touch the device close to the player for it to work – and you don’t even need a battery in your phone. The same applies to the Apple Watch of the North American brand.

In addition, you can also give permission for other people's devices to access your vehicle. Therefore, a family member or friend may be able to use your car. This issue leads to some security concerns, but Apple guarantees that it is perfectly safe.

To be able to take advantage of this innovation you will also need to install the application from your mobile phone manufacturer to be able to pair with your device for the first time.

Obviously, this will not work on all vehicles and will only be compatible with the brands that, in fact, collaborate with Apple to make this possible. Older vehicles are also not an option.
