The Spanish right-wing party Vox has introduced a measure proposing that dogs that are not adopted be slaughtered. The proposal is already generating a great wave of protests on social networks.
Old, diseased and potentially dangerous cross-bred animals are also included in the proposal as it "prevents any family or person looking for a companion animal" from adopting an animal under these conditions.
According to Morning mail, the initiative came from the parliamentary group of Zaragoza, which proposes that animals considered "unfit" be slaughtered in the municipal shelter for stray dogs.
For Julio Calvo, veterinarian by profession and municipal spokesman for Vox, "this practice would be far more humanely advisable than keeping animals in the bad conditions they have been kept for years."
As well as being more economically advantageous, this practice would be painless for animals, preventing them from suffering their deaths.
